I am a shelter trainer and behavior consultant at a smaller shelter in Helena, Montana. We have a year-old dogo named Tino who was recently turned in to us because of biting. He bit two males on the hands but left only minor puncture wounds. At the shelter he bit two kennel attendants on the hands while they were handling him during a period of commotion. These bites were also minor puncture wounds.
He has a low arousal theshold and is not coping well with the stress of a shelter environment. Because of that, we cannot show him to the general public for adoption. He is people shy and has potential but needs some remedial socialization to people. If we can’t put him in a rescue with a group that knows the breed and can work with him, we will have to euthanize him.
I am pulling out all the stops to prevent putting down this beautiful, spirited creature. If you know of any other entities that could take him, besides yourselves, please let me know. He has about a week left if we can’t place him. I would not be going through this process if I thought he was not a dog capable of rehabilitation.
Bless you for what you do for dogs and thanks so much for any help you can give me.
Best,
